Creative Change 2012: A Retreat at Sundance at the Intersection of Arts, Activism and Social Justice

Creative Change 2012 took place at Sundance in Utah from July 30-August 3, 2012, bringing together a dedicated and inspiring group of artists, advocates, funders, and media makers to explore issues and solutions at the intersection of arts, cultural organizing, and social justice. For a full list of participants, see below.

The Creative Change 2012 Program is available for download here.

Creative Change is an invitation-only event. For any questions in advance of the retreat, please contact Betsy Richards by email (brichards@opportunityagenda.org) or by phone (212-231-2298) or Jason P. Drucker by email (jdrucker@opportunityagenda.org) or phone (212-334-4275).

We are especially grateful to the Akonadi Foundation, the Compton Foundation, Ford Foundation, Lambent Foundation, Nathan Cummings Foundation, Surdna Foundation, Time Warner Foundation, and Unbound Philanthropy for their financial support.

Pre-Reading for Creative Change 2012
: We have selected a set of diverse articles as “pre-reading” for Creative Change 2012. They are attached here as a PDF. Our hope is that these pieces will help set the context for some of our conversations:

Please also consider reading "Design Studio for Social Intervention’s Spatial Justice: A Frame for Reclaiming Our Rights to Be, Thrive, Express, and Connect," available here, and Applied Research Center’s "Shattered Families: The Perilous Intersection of Immigration Enforcement and the Child Welfare System," available here, as well as watching David Kelley’s Ted Talk, "How to Build Your Creative Confidence," available here. The reading lists from Creative Change 2011 and 2010 are available here and here, and our Creative Change photo albums can be found on our Facebook page
