On June 15, New America Media and The Opportunity Agenda hosted a telephonic news briefing on efforts to amend the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to deny birthright citizenship to any child born in the United States to parents who are undocumented immigrants. This proposed change specifically targets immigrant women.

The 14th Amendment, adopted in the wake of the Civil War, reversed the Supreme Court's ruling in the Dred Scott case which declared that people of African descent were not and could never become citizens of the United States. The call featured experienced legal advocates and organizers discussing legislative efforts to amend the Constitution and the potential impact of the proposed change.
