Criminal Justice

By: Alixa Garcia

Everyone deserves a chance to learn from mistakes, but today the U.S. criminal justice system violates that idea, prioritizing punishment over redemption and lock-up over treatment. We’re bringing together advocates from across the country to shift the narratives that justify and perpetuate overincarceration.

This work is particularly important because the U.S. locks up more of its population than any other country, and because we have maintained sentences like life without parole for youth long after other countries have abandoned them. Our work examines the American public discourse on crime, the criminal justice system, and criminal justice reform, as well as how that discourse affects policy, helping reform leaders, organizations, and allies build public support for effective solutions to criminal justice issues, and providing insights for media makers who cover, or could cover, criminal justice.
