For the first time in its five-year history, our Communications Institute focused on the issue of criminal justice.

We worked with advocates on framing the discourse on criminal justice in a way that tells a larger story, but also allows advocates to speak specifically to their own issues, such as racial profiling, drug policy, and gender and sexuality concerns. In 2014, 17 Fellows committed to learning and refining communications skills. Past Institutes have focused on immigration; home opportunity; and race, gender, and economic opportunity.

The 2014 Communications Institute was made possible, in part, by the generous contributions of Atlantic Philanthropies, the Ford Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, the Libra Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and individual donors.
