New York, NY – Today, MacKenzie Scott announced a $4 million investment in The Opportunity Agenda, Inc. Founded in 2006, The Opportunity Agenda is a social justice communication and culture change lab which helps leading activists, thinkers, creatives, and culture makers improve our world.

The Opportunity Agenda develops narrative and culture change breakthroughs at the intersections of the major social justice struggles of our time: immigration, racial justice and economic opportunity. The organization has trained hundreds of social justice leaders in values-based communication strategies and has created spaces for culture change leaders to ideate new organizations, connections, and pop culture interventions to change our world. Backed by rigorous research and field testing, The Opportunity Agenda provides message support, research, and tools for improving the narrative about racial and social justice in our country and is setting the stage for major advances tomorrow. The Opportunity Agenda is currently a fiscally sponsored project of Tides and will become The Opportunity Agenda, Inc. an independent 501(c)3 organization in the Spring of 2021.

Ellen Buchman, President of The Opportunity Agenda, said: “I am grateful for this generous gift to The Opportunity Agenda, Inc. and so many other organizations committed to improving our world. This contribution is the latest in a series of major developments which will enable The Opportunity Agenda, Inc. to support the vision and voices of rising social justice leaders nationwide. With new Steering Committee leadership, a cadre of amazing new staff, and growing resources, we are building upon our nearly 15-year legacy of racial and social justice narrative and culture change innovations and creating dynamic spaces of collaboration and learning.”

Vincent Benjamin, Chair of The Opportunity Agenda Steering Committee added: “This important investment reinforces the great confidence I have in The Opportunity Agenda, Inc. and its potential for transformational impact. Narrative and culture change are two of our most powerful tools to humanize a message, make connections and effect real change in our hearts and minds as well as in our capitol buildings and law books. I am proud of The Opportunity Agenda’s impact and am grateful for this generous investment in our future.”
