Jasmine Heiss leads the Vera Institute of Justice’s national work to reduce jail incarceration and eliminate money bail, with a particular focus on smaller cities and rural counties. She previously served as the deputy director of The Coalition for Public Safety, the nation’s largest bipartisan effort to reform the U.S. criminal justice system, and as Amnesty International USA’s senior campaigner, where she led work on groundbreaking victories, including the passage of the country’s first reparations package for police torture survivors and the release of Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3. She has represented U.S. Civil Society at the United Nations, acted as a human rights delegate to Palestine’s occupied West Bank, and served as a human rights observer during the uprisings in both Fergsuon, MO and Baltimore, Maryland.
