About

Alaide Vilchis Ibarra has over 10 years of experience working to protect and expand migrant rights. She is passionate about the intersections of policy, community organizing and mutual aid. Testing how to operationalized these intersections, Alaide co-founded the Asylum Seekers Solidarity Collective, a community group which drove the strategy to pass millions of dollars to support arriving asylum seekers in Portland, OR. Recently, Alaide worked as Campaign Director for Value our Families, a national coalition focused on defending the family immigration system and the Executive Director of IMIrJ (the Oregon Interfaith Movement for Immigrant Justice), where she led community organizing to pass the strongest Sanctuary law in the country. Alaide is a DREAMer who became a United States citizen in 2014. She found her voice as an advocate testifying in the Kansas legislature to protect access to higher education for immigrants like her.
